The Wood Blewit (Lepista nuda or Clitocybe nuda) is a striking and edible wild mushroom often found in leaf litter from autumn into winter, especially after temperatures drop. Its cap is initially purple, turning more brown as it matures. The crowded gills and robust, fibrous stem have a lilac hue. Wood Blewits have a meaty texture and a strong, perfumed, sometimes floral scent. They thrive in woodlands and are sometimes found growing in “fairy rings.”
