The Turquoise Elfcup (Chlorociboria aeruginosa) is a diminutive cup fungus famed for its vivid blue-green colour, which stains decaying wood in forests and parks. Its tiny, goblet-shaped fruit bodies grow on well-rotted, bark-free hardwood, especially oak, forming clusters rarely exceeding 5 mm in diameter. The species is most often spotted by the characteristic turquoise-green stained wood rather than its fruiting bodies, which appear in summer and autumn. Turquoise Elfcup is inedible and holds no culinary value but is highly prized by woodworkers for its beautiful colouration, historically used in decorative inlay work.
