The Turkey Tail mushroom (Trametes versicolor) is a common polypore fungus found worldwide on decaying wood. This thin, leathery bracket fungus forms semicircular caps 4-10 cm across, displaying striking concentric rings in various colours, often reddish brown, tan, cream, and sometimes green with age, resembling the tail of a wild turkey. Turkey tail is best seen in autumn but grows year-round, typically in dense, layered clusters. While inedible due to its tough texture, it is renowned in traditional Asian medicine for potential health benefits from compounds such as polysaccharide-K, used as a cancer therapy adjunct in Japan.
