The British swallow, also known as the barn swallow, is a distinctive bird with a glossy, dark blue-black back and white underside. It features a red forehead and throat, along with a black band across the chest. The swallow’s tail is long and deeply forked, a key identifying feature. It measures about 19-22 cm in length with a wingspan of 32-34 cm. Swallows are agile fliers, feeding on insects in flight, and are commonly seen in open fields and near water. They are summer visitors to the UK, arriving in April and departing in October
