Dark solid black on premium indie dyed yarn. It’s a really properly black black, which is unusual for an indie dyer to create. Lighter and more semisolid blacks are much easier to create and far more saleable. But if you need an genuinely dark black on gorgeous indie yarn then this is the one for you.
I use two different black dyes, a warm one and a cool one, to create the darkest and most intense mix this yarn can absorb, and then I fix it with extra care and time to ensure it stays colourfast. It’s very labour and dye intensive but afterwards the water runs clear and no dye is wasted. I am then able to reuse the water for the next batch, a genuinely quite difficult achievement for proper blacks!
The upcycled version is spun from leftovers at the mill and is almost identical to the platinum sock. It is equally soft but, rather than the extreme smoothness of the platinum base, it has a cosier, almost fluffier texture. Both are very dark black but if there is a subtle difference I think it is that perhaps the upcycled sock is a warmer black and the platinum a cooler one.
It is a superwash treated 4ply sock weight with 75% merino wool for softness and warmth, and 25% nylon for strength and durability. Around 420 metres per 100g skein.
This yarn is presented as a skein. If you would like it caked then this adds 24h to the dispatch time and costs £2. You can purchase this service here:
