The Magpie Inkcap (Coprinopsis picacea) is a strikingly patterned, toxic mushroom found mainly in deciduous woodlands, especially under beech and oak trees. Its elongated cap starts egg-shaped, then opens to a dark brown bell decorated with white flakes, resembling magpie plumage. The white gills turn pinkish, then black and “melt” into ink, a process called deliquescence. The slender stem is white and floccose (woolly) with a slightly bulbous base. This fungus emits an unpleasant chemical odour and is unsafe for consumption, but the ink it produces was historically used in writing.

This is a superwash treated sock weight (fingering, 4ply) yarn spun from 100% Bluefaced Leicester wool. It is suitable for approximately 2-5mm needles. About 420 metres per 100g skein. This yarn is presented as a skein. If you would like it caked then this paid-for service adds 24h to the dispatch time.
