The House Martin is a small bird, approximately 12 cm long, with a glossy blue-black back and pure white underparts. It features a distinctive white rump and a short, forked tail without streamers. The bird’s legs and toes are covered in white feathers. House Martins are known for their mud nests built under eaves, often in colonies. They are summer migrants, arriving in the UK in April and departing in September/October. Their rapid chattering call is a common sound in the evenings as they fly in flocks, catching insects over water and built-up areas.
