The Firecrest (Regulus ignicapilla) is a small, vibrant bird known for its striking appearance and lively behavior. Measuring about 9 cm in length, it features a bright orange crest bordered with black, which gives the bird its name. Its face is marked with bold white supercilium (eyebrow stripe) and a black eye-stripe, contrasting with olive-green upperparts and pale underparts. Firecrests are often found in mature woodlands, especially coniferous forests, where they flit actively through foliage searching for insects. They are rare in the UK and generally only seen in the South of England.
