The Crested Tit, Lophophanes cristatus, is a small bird found in Scotland’s Caledonian pine forests. It measures about 11 cm in length and is known for its distinctive black and white crest, which is permanently upright. The head features a white background with a black bib, collar, and eye stripe. The upperparts are pale brownish, while the underparts are buffy brown. Both sexes have similar plumage, with juveniles appearing slightly duller. This bird is a resident species and feeds on insects and seeds, often joining winter flocks with other tit species.
