The Scarlet Fairy Cup, also known as the Scarlet Elfcup (Sarcoscypha coccinea), is a striking, cup-shaped fungus found on damp, decaying wood in shady forests from winter to early spring. Its vivid red inner surface and pale, felted outer layer make it easy to spot, often appearing amidst leaf litter when few other fungi are in season. Edible when cooked, the mushroom has a subtle earthy flavour and woody texture, though its culinary value is limited by its small size and toughness.
