Lily of the Nile (Agapanthus) is a beautiful perennial known for its tall stems topped with clusters of blue trumpet-shaped flowers. Native to South Africa, it thrives in sunny gardens and containers, symbolising love and beauty while attracting bees and butterflies throughout the summer months. In Australia it is sometimes known as Star of Bethlehem for it’s appearance just before Christmas.
It is a soft smooth 100% merino yarn, a new non superwash base that has been gently enzyme treated to enhance ease of care. It takes up the dye better than other non-superwash yarns, resulting in deeper colouration that is comparable to superwash, though not quite as intense. It is not as delicate as conventional non-superwash bases and you can use the wool cycle on your washing machine provided you pick a cool temperature. There is no nylon and it biodegrades at the same rate as ordinary wool.
Although all our superwash is environmentally friendly and does not result in a plastic surface, this is a feel good alternative for those who wish to avoid superwash and nylon but still want to enjoy most of the benefits they provide.
Around 400 metres per 100g skein. Suitable for 2-3mm needles. If you wish to make socks then you should consider reinforcing high stress areas with nylon. This yarn is presented as a skein. If you would like it caked then this adds 24h to the dispatch time and is a paid-for service.
