Things people say to me at yarn shows. Why? Actually this is very good advice, flowers sell because they are “nice”. You might imagine folk buy yarn because the colours are beautiful or striking or something like that, but they don’t.

People buy the image, and “pretty” things like flowers and scenery are far more popular amongst those who have money to spend than “gross” things like moths or squid. Individuals who would go for the more unusual options generally seem to have less disposable income.

So, yeah, this lady was absolutely right. If I want food I must dye floral/landscape yarn. The best example I have is my original octopus yarn. NOBODY would buy it! Then someone at a show said the colours were just like their cat so I renamed it.

“Calico Cat” remains one of my all time best sellers because it’s not about the yarn, it’s ALL about the image. So here is a beautiful purple mix with blue speckles to ignore because there’s no flower picture to go with it.

This soft smooth sock yarn is 75% superwash merino for softness and warmth, and 25% nylon for enhanced durability. Approximately 420 metres per 100g skein. Suitable for 2-3mm needles.
