During the breeding season, in late spring and early summer, Swinhoe’s pheasants become more conspicuous. Males may court several females, and nesting is usually done on the ground in a shallow scrape lined with plant material.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThe species is important to Taiwanese natural history, and it is sometimes treated as an unofficial national symbol because its plumage reflects the red, white, and blue of Taiwan’s flag. It has become an icon of national conservation efforts because of its association with intact mountain forest.
