The Squeaking Silk Moth (Rhodinia fugax) caterpillar will chirrup when threatened. They rapidly contract their bodies, forcing air through their spiracula, emitting a high pitched squeaking sound. The moth pictured is a female, with males generally being darker with orange and brown colouration. Their silk has different properties than that of the domesticated silk moth and is green in colour.
