Lady's Mantle (Alchemilla mollis) is a perennial herbaceous plant that is widely cultivated for its ornamental foliage. It is a low growing member of the Rosaceae family with a clumping habit that forms a dense rosette of round, lobed leaves. These make suitably lush green ground cover or pretty edging for landscaping.
The leaves are typically green throughout the growing season, being slightly hairy and velvety to the touch. It produces small, yellow-green flowers in early summer, which are held on tall, wiry stems above the foliage. Lady’s Mantle can thrive in a wide range of growing conditions, preferring moist, well-drained soil and partial shade but tolerant of full sun and dry conditions once established. It is also a popular choice for cut flower arrangements.
As a traditional herbal medicine, is sometimes used for its astringent and anti-inflammatory properties, particularly in skincare products. The leaves and flowers contain tannins and flavonoids, thought to help reduce inflammation and redness, and to improve the overall appearance of the skin.
